AceShowbiz - Placido Domingo has resigned from the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA), and will contribute $500,000 (£420,000) to sexual harassment eradication programmes and a fund that helps opera employees in crisis.

After a summary released to The Hollywood Reporter by Los Angeles Opera chiefs earlier this month (Mar20) confirmed that 10 women accused the star of engaging in inappropriate conduct between 1986 and 2019, the star announced his withdrawal from AGMA.

While the report did not detail any of the allegations, it claimed that the "level of discomfort reported by the women varied, ranging from some women stating they were not uncomfortable to others who described significant trauma."

According to The Independent newspaper, sources said investigators found 27 people had made credible claims of sexual harassment or had witnessed inappropriate behavior by Domingo.

The superstar tenor was first accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women in an Associated Press report last August, and a separate independent investigation released by AGMA found a "clear pattern of sexual misconduct and abuse of power spanning at least two decades".

Domingo initially apologized following the announcement of the Guild's findings, but then rowed back, denying he had behaved aggressively towards women.

Now, the star has withdrawn from AGMA, after investigations in association with L.A. Opera found sexual harassment allegations against the famed tenor, 79, to be credible.

Domingo helped found L.A. Opera in the 1980s and led the company as general director from 2003 until last October when he stepped down after the allegations surfaced.

Following his resignation, AGMA also said the union had withdrawn disciplinary charges, which could have included fines or expulsion, filed against the singer as a result of its investigation.
