Announcing the passing of her mother Maggie, the 59-year-old comedienne admits she is not taking the loss well and adds that 'it truly feels like the end of an era.'

AceShowbiz - Kathy Griffin has been left "gutted" following the death of her "irreplaceable" mother Maggie.

The comedienne announced her mum's passing in a post on her Instagram page on Tuesday (March 17), sharing a snap of herself and her mother and writing: "My Mom, the one and only, Maggie Griffin, passed away today. Hours ago. I am gutted. She was my best friend. She was my family. You knew her. She appreciated you guys so much."

"I'm shaking. I won't ever be prepared. Her point of view. So unique. We just GOT each other. I'm so grateful you got to be part of her life. You loved her. I know it. She knew it. She's irreplaceable."

Concluding her post, Kathy noted that "OF COURSE she went on St Patrick's Day", as she wrote: "I'm telling you right now, I am not doing well with this. I'm rambling now. Sorry. It truly feels like the end of an era. I love you guys. KG."

Maggie's death comes after Kathy opened up about her mother's health struggles over the past 12 months, revealing in June (19) that her mum's "dementia is worsening."

Following Kathy's sad announcement, she was inundated with messages from her supportive friends, including Aubrey Plaza, who wrote: "I love you Kath. Your mom is a legend."
