AceShowbiz - The 92nd annual Academy Awards paid tributes to famous figures who passed away in 2019 in a grand In Memoriam tribute. However, some familiar faces were noticeably absent from the montage and they were Luke Perry and Cameron Boyce.
Perry, who starred in this year's Best Picture nominee "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood", died at the age of 52 after suffering a stroke in March 2019. Meanwhile, the "Grown Ups" star died in his sleep in July 2019 after experiencing an epileptic seizure. He was 20.
The snub outraged fans who blasted the Academy on Twitter. "Luke Perry deserves better. #InMemoriam," one tweeted. "Was Luke Perry left off the 'In Memoriam' slideshow in the same year a film he's in is nominated 10 times? Yeesh, #Oscars. #LukePerry #AcademyAwards," one other added.
"Luke Perry wasn't in the In Memorial?? He was literally in one of the most nominated films of the night!! Disrespectful!!" one noted. Someone pointed out, "Oof! Not including Cameron Boyce and Luke Perry was a HUGE mistake academy! #Oscars."
Among those who were included in the tribute video, which was introduced by Steven Spielberg at the Sunday, February 9 event, were Kobe Bryant and Kirk Douglas. The NBA legend died in a helicopter crash in January that also claimed the life of his daughter Gianna. The late Lakers star's photo was captioned with the quote that read, "Life is too short to get bogged down and be discouraged. You have to keep moving. You have to keep going."
Alongside the montage, Billie Eilish serenaded everyone. The 18-year-old Grammy winner took the stage to offer a stunning performance of "Yesterday" by The Beatles.
