The 'Marriage Story' star was initially set to receive the Outstanding Performers of the Year award alongside co-star Adam Driver at the 2020 Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

AceShowbiz - Scarlett Johansson was unable to accept her award at the 2020 Santa Barbara International Film Festival after suffering a "violent" illness.

The actress was set to receive the Outstanding Performers of the Year award, alongside her "Marriage Story" co-star Adam Driver, at the ceremony, but he was forced to accept the prize alone as Scarlett was too ill to attend.

However, the star gave her pal a handwritten note to read on her behalf, sharing, "I am so saddened that I cannot be here with you this evening."

The "Jojo Rabbit" actress explained that about "an hour and a half" before the ceremony she had become "violently ill" as she "was about to leave the Miramar hotel" for the prizegiving, held at the Arlington Theatre on Friday, January 17.

"I was so looking forward to accepting this incredible honor in person, and to not be here on stage with Adam is deeply disappointing, to say the least," she concluded.

Meanwhile, Adam took a moment on stage to reflect on his job as he received the accolade, explaining, "Acting to me is many things. It's a craft. It's a political act. Unfortunately, it's a business, and it's a service."

"I think acting is a service industry. I'm there in service of the director, the actors and the crew, and the story overall, which is more important."
