Aside from looking back at the seasons she cannot stand, the actress playing Haley Dunphy on the hit show admits she is proud of how she and co-star Ariel Winter dealt with mean attacks.

AceShowbiz - "Modern Family" star Sarah Hyland hates looking back at seasons four and five of the TV comedy, because her health issues were all over the screen.

The actress battled endometriosis and kidney dysplasia while playing Haley Dunphy on the hit show, and she admits her health woes were front and centre on the series.

"I look back and had cringe-worthy seasons, not because of puberty but because of health things," she tells WENN. "I cannot stand seasons four and five because I had very bad prednisone (medication) face and I gained 30 pounds."

But as she films the final episodes of the show, she's proud of the way she and TV sister Ariel Winter dealt with mean attacks on their looks and figures.

"People really love to attack people," Hyland shares. "I think Ariel has always been such an amazing woman and so mature and handles it with such grace and poise. Between the two of us, we really have gone and tackled the critics with all of our bites and wits."

Winter adds of standing up to her Twitter trolls: "It used to bother me, but as I got older, I developed a thicker skin and self care is important."

"I'm sure I said a couple of things and regret being salty (bitter), but I never wanted to berate anybody or be mean to anybody (for what they said about me). You just have to remember these people online, when they say things, it's not your opinion of yourself. It's about my own confidence and not paying attention to people on the Internet."
