AceShowbiz - More than 15 years ago, Judy Greer was offered an audition for the iconic role of Claire Dunphy in the hit sitcom "Modern Family". However, she ultimately declined due to concerns about the role's limitations and her personal life.
In a recent interview with Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who played Claire's brother Mitchell, Greer revealed that at the time, she was "starting to [play moms]" in her career. However, she was not interested in having children at that point in her life.
"I was like, 'I think I'm not going to audition for it,' " she said. "I was really torn about it, but I ended up obviously not. Who knows if I would have even gotten it anyway? But I was just like, 'I don't know if I want to be America's mom yet.'"
Greer also expressed concerns about the lifestyle changes that came with playing a mother on television. "On a TV show, it's just like, you're a mom," she explained. "And in addition to just the perception of who you are as an actor, it's lifestyle too. I was like, well, I like traveling a lot, and I like doing all these movies, and I like going to all these places, and I like meeting all these people."
Ultimately, Greer decided that the role would have been too restrictive for her at that stage in her career. Despite her decision, "Modern Family" went on to become one of the most successful comedies of all time, with Julie Bowen winning two Emmy Awards for her portrayal of Claire Dunphy.
Greer went on to have a successful career, appearing in films such as "13 Going on 30" and "Ant-Man", as well as television shows like "Arrested Development" and "Reboot".
