Tattoo artist Alessandro Capozzi explains that the new body art etched on the 'Sorry Not Sorry' songstress' back was created to 'represent a rebirth of the spirit.'

AceShowbiz - Demi Lovato marked the holiday season with some empowering new ink.

The singer collaborated with tattoo artist Alessandro Capozzi on Monday, December 23 to design an angel representing her comeback from a drug overdose.

"We created this piece together to represent a rebirth of the spirit," Capozzi wrote on Instagram, along with images of the design being etched onto Lovato's back. "The dark wings represent the bad times, their fading away is how she moved forward. The light from within represents the inner strength necessary for the change and the doves, pulling her up, symbolize the reach of an higher state of consciousness (sic).

"Congratulations on your inspiring journey Demi, honored to have represented this for you."

The artwork comes months after the "Confident" hitmaker celebrated a year of sobriety following her near-fatal overdose in the summer of 2018, six years after previously kicking her substance abuse habit.

Earlier this month (December 2019), Lovato turned to celebrity tattoo artist Dr. Woo to create a neck tattoo declaring herself a "survivor". she also had the word "me" inked onto her left ring finger earlier this year, joining her "stay strong" mantra on her wrists, and her "now I'm a warrior" declaration on her back.
