However, the 62-year-old host insists that the mishap isn't entirely his fault as he blames it on the teleprompter, explaining to the viewers, 'This is what they did to me back in 2015.'

AceShowbiz - Another year, another blunder. Host Steve Harvey made another mistake during Miss Universe 2019 when he announced the wrong winner for the best national costume on Sunday, December 8.

Instead of Miss Malaysia Shweta Sekhon, the 62-year-old TV personality accidentally announced Miss Philippines Gazini Ganados as the winner. However, Steve explained that the mishap wasn't entirely his fault as he was caught off-guard when a photo of Miss Philippines was shown on screen.

"Earlier this week, all the contestants competed in a National Costume contest," Steve began explaining. "Here's the look at the winner, Miss Philippines..." he added, before Shweta, who stood next to him corrected his mistake.

After asking to take away the microphone, the real winner said, "It's not Philippines. It's Malaysia."

Explaining the flub, Steve said, "Well... let me explain something to you. I just read that in a teleprompter. You all quit doing this to me. I can read this. They are trying to fix it now. This is what they did to me back in 2015," referring to the unforgettable moment when he mistakenly announced Miss Colombia Arianda Gutierrez as the winner of Miss Universe 2015 instead of Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach.

He went on introducing, "This is Malaysia. I really love this National Costume of Malaysia. This is crazy."

Miss Malaysia then explained the meaning behind her colorful costume that was designed by Carven Ong, "The state in Malaysia, which is the Melaka State, it's historical heritage in my country. So what you see here is five tables with foods," Shweta shared. "And what I am wearing is the bride's outfit from the mixed marriage. And this is the tail of the goldfish..."

In a joking manner, Steve responded, "Whatever you said. I'm scared to say your name. Thank you, Malaysia. An outfit that nice, you ought to wear that again."

The 68th annual Miss Universe competition saw Miss South Africa Zozibini Tunzi being crowned as the winner. Miss Mexico Sofia came out as the third place finisher, while Miss Puerto Rico Madison Anderson was named as this year's runner-up. As for Miss Congeniality, the title went to Miss Poland Olga BuĊ‚awa.
