The Kylo Ren of the new 'Star Wars' movie trilogy bags the prestigious Best Actor trophy and his new movie 'Marriage Story' is named Best Feature at the independent film awards.

AceShowbiz - "Marriage Story" star Adam Driver won Best Actor at the Gotham Independent Film Awards on Monday, December 2, one of four prizes the film picked up in total.

In addition to Driver's prize, writer-director Noah Baumbach's comedy-drama, which also stars Scarlett Johansson, won Best Feature, Best Screenplay, and the Audience Award.

Johansson was not nominated for Best Actress - with Awkwafina winning for "The Farewell".

The New York prizegiving, which celebrates American independent filmmaking, is often a good early indicator of the early Oscars frontrunners. Past Best Feature winners include "Moonlight", "Spotlight", and "Birdman" - all of which went on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Other notable winners this year are "American Factory", the first film project backed by Barack and Michelle Obama's Higher Ground production firm, which was named Best Documentary, Taylor Russell who won Breakthrough Actor for Waves, and Breakthrough Director Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre for "The Mustang".

Ava DuVernay's Central Park Five drama "When They See Us" also picked up the Breakthrough Series - Long Format award. DuVernay, Laura Dern, and Sam Rockwell, also received tributes at the ceremony.
