Having been released a week before the holiday, the Disney animated sequel maintains its reign on the domestic chart despite the arrivals of newcomers 'Knives Out' and 'Queen and Slim'.

AceShowbiz - "Frozen II" is unshattered in its second week at North American box office. The sequel to "Frozen (2013)" came out on top of the chart with an estimated $82.3 over a three-day frame and an estimated $132.7 million across the five-day weekend, breaking the record previously held by "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire", which made $109 million in 2013, for the biggest Thanksgiving weekend gross of all time.

Domestically, the animated adventure film has grossed a total of $287.6 million so far, after debuting to a record-breaking opening gross of $130.3 million. The movie has helped Disney collect over $3.2 billion in 2019 domestic ticket sales, surpassing the studio's record of $3.09 billion from ticket sales of all Disney titles in 2018.

"Having the opening weekend falling a few days ahead of Thanksgiving really set it up perfectly," says Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for Comscore. "Disney is usually immune to the waning interest that audience have with some sequels," he adds of the movie's success after recent disastrous follow-up titles, such as "Terminator: Dark Fate" and "Doctor Sleep".

Internationally, "Frozen II" added another $163.8 million over the three-day weekend and has now grossed $451 million overseas. It has currently made $738.6 million globally and is poised to become the sixth 2019 Disney release to join the billion dollar club after "Avengers: Endgame" ($2.8 billion), "The Lion King" ($1.66 billion), "Captain Marvel" ($1.13 billion), "Toy Story 4" ($1.07 billion) and "Aladdin" ($1.05 billion).

New release "Knives Out" has a strong debut at No. 2 with approximately $27 million, though it's pale in comparison to the second weekend cume of "Frozen II". The whodunit movie from director Rian Johnson pushes "Ford v Ferrari" to No. 3 with an estimated $13.2 million.

"A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" is also down one spot to No. 4 with approximately $11.8 million. Rounding out the top five is another newcomer, "Queen & Slim", which opened to $11.7 million domestically.
