The 'Larry King Now' host opens up on his struggle with health issues and reveals his sons were called to come home when he suffered from stroke earlier this year.

AceShowbiz - Larry King has revealed he "almost died" after suffering a stroke back in March.

The broadcaster recently spoke with the New York Post's gossip column Page Six, where he revealed that, while his August divorce from wife Shawn was widely publicised, his life-threatening illness went largely under the radar.

Ahead of his 86th birthday, King revealed, "Everything that's happened to me, I'm grateful for. Maybe that sounds cliche, but I'm really, really grateful."

"I had what they call a slight stroke in March. Everything is back to normal, except my left foot. I can't walk on my left foot, so I'm walking with a walker. It's making me feel old," he added. "But at least it helps me get around. Another thing I can't stand is having people do things for me. I was always someone who did things for themselves."

Sharing the severity of the health scare, he continued, "They thought I was going to die in March. They told my two boys to come home. It was really touch-and-go."

"I don't remember any of it, because I was out during the whole time. I had a sepsis infection, I had a new stent put on the heart. It's been amazing - everyone tells me they can't believe I made it through."

King is now hoping to walk again unaided, and confessed his physiotherapist is hopeful, smiling, "I might have a slight limp. But I'll take it."

Back in April, it was reported the star was hospitalised ahead of a scheduled heart procedure, but his representative made it clear that contrary to published reports, King did not suffer a heart attack.
