She featured on the hit TV musical drama as the character Lillian Adler, a former glee club leader at McKinley High, whose image appeared prominently in the show in a trophy case celebrating her achievements.

However, Galloway Heitz only ever featured in person twice in the Ryan Murphy series, which ran for six seasons until 2015.

Over the years, the actress also scored small roles on "ER", "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation", "Grey's Anatomy", "Prison Break", and "Monk", as well as "The Big Bang Theory" and "Shameless".

Her film credits include David Lynch movie "The Straight Story" in 1999, "Just Visiting" in 2001, and Lindsay Lohan's 2007 thriller "I Know Who Killed Me".

Further details about her passing have not been revealed, but an obituary was published in The Chicago Tribune.

Her funeral is due to be held in Elmhurst, Illinois on November 30.
