People react in disbelief after the 'F**kin' Problems' rapper became a keypoint in U.S. Ambassador Gordon Sondland's testimony at Wednesday's impeachment hearings on Capitol Hill.

AceShowbiz - Twitter is sent into a frenzy after A$AP Rocky's name was being dropped at President Donald Trump's impeachment hearings. During his testimony on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, November 20, Gordon Sondland, the United States ambassador to the European Union and the Democrats' star witness, recalled a phone conversation he had with Trump about the rapper, who was incarcerated in Sweden this past summer.

In his opening statement, Sondland confirmed other witnesses' testimonies about his July 26 phone call with the president. "It's true that the president speaks loudly at times and it is also true-I think we primarily discussed A$AP Rocky," he said.

Trump and Sondland were discussing Rocky's imprisonment in Sweden at the time. The rapper was held behind bars for weeks after he and his entourage were involved in a street fight with a 19-year-old. The call to Trump was made on an unsecured cellphone while Sondland was at a restaurant in Ukraine, causing concerns about Russia possibly monitoring the conversation.

David Holmes, a U.S. Embassy official in Kyiv, Ukraine, also testified about the phone call he heard between Trump and Sondland. He was with Sondland at the restaurant at the time and recalled the Ambassador had the phone pulled away from his ear because Trump was speaking so loudly. According to New York Times, Holmes testified that Sondland advised Trump he should let Rocky "get sentenced, play the racism card, give him a ticker tape when he comes home."

Following the testimonies, Twitter reacted in disbelief that the "Babushka Boi" rapper became a keypoint during the impeachment hearings. "I cannot believe that A$AP Rocky has become a major talking point in the #ImpeachmentHearings in this, the year of our Lord 2019," one reacted. "I have to admit I did not have A$AP Rocky on my impeachment bingo card," another surprised user tweeted.

Another doubted that Rocky was the main topic of the conversation between Trump and Sondland. The said user wrote, "So, Sondland and the GOP want everyone to believe that the primary purpose of Sondland's call to the President of the United States, around lunch time, from a restaurant in Kiev (around 9pm EST), was to discuss A$AP Rocky? Apologies. I simply find that story not believable."

Rocky was arrested in early July and spent over a month in custody before being released. He was found guilty of assault charges and given a suspended prison sentence and had to pay 12,500 kr ($1,270) in damages to the victim. He, however, did not have to return to prison because he had already served over a month in jail for the incident before the sentence was handed out.

The impeachment hearings are held to probe into whether or not Trump abused his presidential power for his own political gain. Democrats believe Trump withheld $400 million in military aid to Ukraine in order to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Trump's political rivals, including 2020 Democratic Party presidential candidate Joe Biden.
