'Last of Summer Wine' Star Jean Fergusson Dies at 74

Fellow actress Vicki Michelle is saddened by Fergusson's passing, saying on Twitter that she's shocked because she still saw her over the weekend at a friend's birthday.

AceShowbiz - Veteran British actress Jean Fergusson, who played Marina in beloved BBC sitcom "Last of the Summer Wine", has died at the age of 74.

Fergusson, who played Marina, an opinionated foil for its three main leads in 216 episodes of the show from 1985 until it ended in 2010, passed away on Friday, November 15, her pal, " 'Allo 'Allo!' actress Vicki Michelle, confirmed on Twitter.

"Shocked & saddened to hear Jean Fergusson has passed Lovely lady, fabulous actress," she wrote, telling her followers that she had seen her at fellow British star Su Pollard's birthday bash on Sunday.

The late actress also appeared in the soap opera Coronation Street, playing the part of Dorothy Hoyle until 2011. She also had a career in the theatre, and was nominated for an Olivier award in 1998 for her portrayal of British comic, actress and music hall performer Hylda Baker.

"Last of the Summer Wine" was a fixture on British screens for nearly three decades, running from 1973 until 2010.

The comedy centred on three ageing Yorkshiremen, most famously the impulsive Compo Simmonite, easy-going everyman Norman Clegg, and Walter 'Foggy' Dewhurst, played by Peter Sallis, Bill Owen, and Brian Wilde respectively.
