AceShowbiz - Female Members of Parliament had come to Meghan Markle's defense amid her battle with British press. On Tuesday, October 29, 72 female M.P.s, representing multiple parties, signed onto an open letter in support of the Duchess of Sussex.

The letter, which was spearheaded by Halifax Labour MP Holly Lynch, specifically described some of the attacks launched by press against Meghan as violating Meghan's privacy and having "what can only be described as outdated, colonial undertones." Additionally, the letter stated that "as women MPs of all political persuasions" the group wanted to "stand against" stories they said were "often distasteful and misleading."

"On occasions, stories and headlines have represented an invasion of your privacy and have sought to cast aspersions about your character, without any good reason as far as we can see," the letter continued. "As women Members of Parliament from all backgrounds, we stand with you in saying it cannot be allowed to go unchalleged."

Through the letter, women M.P.s "expect the national media to have the integrity to know when a story is in the national interest, and when it is seeking to tear a woman down for no apparent reason. You have our assurances that we stand with you in solidarity on this. We will use the means at our disposal to ensure that our press accept your right to privacy and show respect, and that their stories reflect the truth."

It arrives after Prince Harry and Meghan sued some British press over misuse of private information, infringement of copyright and breach of the Data Protection Act 2018. It claimed that the Mail on Sunday in particular had caused his wife and members of their family pain with false published information.

"My wife has become one of the latest victims of a British tabloid press that wages campaigns against individuals with no thought to the consequences - a ruthless campaign that has escalated over the past year, throughout her pregnancy and while raising our newborn son," Harry said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Harry's legal spokesperson has also released a statement, which read, "We have initiated legal proceedings against the Mail on Sunday, and its parent company Associated Newspapers, over the intrusive and unlawful publication of a private letter written by the Duchess of Sussex, which is part of a campaign by this media group to publish false and deliberately derogatory stories about her, as well as her husband."

Any cash won in the case will benefit an anti-bullying charity.
