Anger by the editing, the Gospel singer announces that he will no longer attend any event affiliated with the Dove Awards, Gospel Music Association, or Trinity Broadcasting Network.

AceShowbiz - Gospel singer Kirk Franklin is boycotting the Dove Awards and the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) after the broadcaster censored his award speech highlighting police brutality for the second time.

Franklin won the Gospel Artist of the Year prize at the 50th Annual GMA Dove Awards held October 15 in Nashville, Tennessee, which aired on TBN on October 20. And on Monday, October 28, he accused the network of editing "the African American experience," and insisted he won't attend any of their events until they put plans in place "to protect and champion diversity."

"I asked everyone in the audience and those viewing to join me in prayer for not only Atatiana's (Jefferson) family, including her 8-year-old nephew who witnessed the killing, but also for the family of the police officer," he explained in a video on Instagram. "Last week, during the airing of the awards on the same network, again, that part of my speech was edited out." Jefferson was killed in her home by police as she played video games.

"Not only did they edit my speech, they edited the African American experience," the 13-time Grammy Award-winner added.

It comes three years after Franklin's speech at the 2016 Dove Awards was also edited, when he also spoke about police killings and the murders of five police officers.

The Gospel Music Association, which hosts the Dove Awards, issued a swift apology to Franklin insisting they were "deeply apologetic for the missteps."

"It is not our intent to disregard or silence any of our artists, and we are deeply saddened by this perception and are committed to change this," said association president Jackie Patillo in a statement, according to CNN.

However, after a meeting with the Dove Awards committee and TBN reps, Franklin insisted he won't "attend any events affiliated with or for the Dove Awards, Gospel Music Association, or TBN until tangible plans are put in place to protect and champion diversity."
