Teaming up with writer Cassie Pappas for the film project titled 'Ride', Jill Soloway will bring to the big screen the story of the first American woman in space.

AceShowbiz - Writer/director Jill Soloway is stepping behind the camera to tell the life story of the first American woman in space.

The film will chronicle the life and career of Sally Ride, and focus on the legendary Space Shuttle Challenger mission which helped the astronaut make history back in 1983.

The "Transparent" creator has signed on to direct "Ride (2020)", which was written by Cassie Pappas from an initial script by Krystin Ver Linden, reports Collider.

Nathan Kahane, president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, for which "Ride" is being developed, shares in a statement: "Sally Ride is an American Hero and icon whose life and career was and is endlessly fascinating and inspirational."

"In the hands of Jill Soloway and our tremendous team of producers, we feel we have the right storytellers to honor and properly tell Sally's incredible story."

Ride, who died of pancreatic cancer in 2012, became only the third female to make it to space, following in the footsteps of Soviet Union cosmonauts Valentina Tereshkova and Svetlana Savitskaya.

She remains the youngest American astronaut to make the out-of-this-world journey at the age of 32.
