The '21 Jump Street' actor, who was rumored to play either the Penguin or the Riddler, and Warner Bros. reportedly could not reach a deal, while talks with the 'Lion King' star also didn't work out.

AceShowbiz - "The Batman" is one step back from finding its villain. After weeks of speculation about him starring opposite Robert Pattinson in the Matt Reeves-directed movie, Jonah Hill has reportedly withdrawn himself from talks for a role in the upcoming film.

According to reports, "The Wolf of Wall Street" actor was mulling over the role of either the Penguin or the Riddler. However, the "Maniac" star and Warner Bros. could not come to terms on a deal.

On the same time news of Hill passing on a role in "The Batman" is circulating online, there are rumors that Seth Rogen was also interested to play a villain in the movie. However, as Deadline and Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter note, the talks with the "Sausage Party" star broke down too.

As with Hill, Rogen was in initial talks for the role of either the Penguin or the Riddler. While "The Disaster Artist" star reportedly eyed the role of Penguin, WB allegedly wanted him to play the Riddler. They settled on him playing Riddler and not Penguin, but that didn't work out either.

Now, the studio is looking for new candidates to play one of the famous Batman villains.

So far, Robert Pattinson has been officially announced to play the new Caped Crusader and Zoe Kravitz has been confirmed to take the role of Selina Kyle a.k.a. Catwoman. Jeffrey Wright has also been cast as Commissioner Gordon.

Reeves' "The Batman" will focus on a younger Bruce Wayne than he was in previous movies. The filmmaker has shared his vision for the new Batman movie, "It's more Batman in his detective mode than we've seen in the films." He added, "I'd love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it's going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation."

Reeves will direct the movie based on the script that he writes himself. Filming is expected to begin in London this fall for June 25, 2021 release.
