AceShowbiz - Not everyone is happy with NFL's decision to tap Jennifer Lopez and Shakira as the headliners for the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show. Among them is rocker Dee Snider, who is not afraid to let his feelings known and take a jab at the organization over their decision. In his opinion, NFL doesn't do rock musicians justice.
Taking to Twitter hours after the announcement was made, the Twisted Sister lead singer expressed his frustration, "WTF!? @shakira and @jlo for this year's @nfl halftime show!? Once again the great heavy music that rocks the stadium week after week, game after game is completely ignored. I guess we don't shake our a** enough!!"
His tweet soon caught people's attention, and he immediately received backlash. One replied to his tweet, "Metal died the moment Nirvana came in but let's talk s**t about two iconic and legendary Latinas performing their own current hits for their fans! Why can't we all just say congratulations and move on!!" One other said, "You are a hater and disrespectful. And THIS is a reason you will NEVER be picked."
Responding to the backlash, Snider insisted in a separate tweet that he didn't direct his anger towards the two Latin divas. "It's frustration that week after week rock is the go to music during games but gets no respect when it comes to the Super Bowl! And I don't think I'm popular enough for that slot," he said, suggesting that Metallica should have been tapped as the headliner.
J.Lo and Shakira were announced as the 2010 Super Bowl halftime headliners on Thursday, September 26. Talking about headlining the event, the "Hustlers" star said that she is "happy to be a part of this movement of inclusivity and diversity and embracing," adding that she is "super excited and so is Shakira."
"I saw her this week when we took pictures and stuff, and we're both over the moon and want to bring our brand of what we do, our music, our celebration and our culture to that stage for 15 minutes," she shared. "It's gonna be amazing, it's gonna be a good time and that's my goal to have a good time and to make sure everyone else has a good time."
The 2020 Super Bowl will be held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida on February 2, 2020.
