The 'Maleficent: Mistress of Evil' star says she tried to talk the 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' director into casting her in a possible future installment of the franchise.

AceShowbiz - After officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a role in upcoming movie "The Eternals", Angelina Jolie's next goal is perhaps to be in a "Star Wars" movie. Speaking with MTV at Disney's D23 Expo over the weekend, the actress said that she's up to be a part of the George Lucas-created film franchise.

When asked why she isn't in any "Star Wars" film yet, the Oscar-winning actress said that she's trying to score a role in a possible future installment. "I talked to J.J. [Abrams]. I cornered J.J. in the hallway," she told the interviewer. "I have said to him, 'I have no idea why I can't be in 'Star Wars'."

Jolie had positive things to say about the encounter, saying, "Pretty good. He's so nice." When asked what character she would play if she had a chance to join the franchise, the 44-year-old beauty admitted she still has no idea. "I haven't gotten that far," so she said.

The actress/director, who has been cast as Thena in "The Eternals", also talked about her decision to be a part of the MCU. "I think what they've been doing with the Marvel Universe is amazing," she explained, "and I've been following it and there's nothing like it out there today and so, I'm really excited to be part of the family."

She went on praising Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige as "a genius" and shared her excitement to work with director Chloe Zhao, whom she described as a "strong" and "unique" director. "I love the diversity of our cast," she added. "I think that's gonna bring something special and different." She additionally said that playing the character, Thena, would be "a good challenge."

Besides attending the presentation of "The Eternals", Jolie was at the expo to promote her upcoming movie "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil" in which she reprises her role as the horned title character. "Now, in this one, we return, and we see that Aurora is older and they're facing the world and challenges of the world and it is being emphasized to them how different they are," she said at D23 about her character's relationship with Aurora (Elle Fanning). "They are encouraged to not be a family and pulled apart by their differences. We really pose the question and fight for the belief that what is different makes you stronger. What is family and what defines family is what you believe in."

The "Maleficent" sequel is set to open in theaters nationwide on October 18.
