The 'Charlie's Angels' star plays one of a group of scientists who are trapped at the bottom of the ocean after an earthquake while an unknown creature starts attacking them.

AceShowbiz - Kristen Stewart literally goes underwater in the first trailer for sci-fi horror "Underwater". The movie follows a crew of researchers who want to explore life at the bottom of the ocean. Their challenging mission soon turns into a nightmare after an earthquake devastates their subterranean laboratory.

Trapped seven miles below the ocean's surface, they are forced to reach to safety on their own, without knowing scary creatures and mystery creatures that they will encounter. "I drilled to the bottom of the ocean and we don't know what came out," Emily (Jessica Henwick) tells her fellow crew members, foreshadowing the arrival of an imminent threat.

The trailer sees the scientists being attacked by an unknown sea monster when they try to reach to the station at the other end of the laboratory while wearing their astronaut-like suits with limited oxygen.

Stewart plays Norah Price, with Vincent Cassel portraying the Captain. Also starring John Gallagher Jr., Mamoudou Athie, T.J. Miller and Gunner Wright, "Underwater" is directed by William Eubank, with the script being written by Brian Duffield and Adam Cozad.

The "Twilight Saga" movies actress described "Underwater" as "a really dark, scary meditation on isolation." She explained to Entertainment Weekly, "Basically, it's like a survival movie about a bunch of people that don't know each other, and the strange, occasionally existential conversations that ensue, and the weird relationships being formed really quickly. The underlying story of [disrupting] something that really should be left in its natural state, and what you can unearth - that's what keeps it scary."

She also opened up about the challenge filming the movie, "I haven't made a movie of this scale maybe ever. It was not an easy movie to make - really long and just drippy and cold and f***ing hard. I want to see how we all reacted in such precarious circumstances. It really pulls out the best and worst parts of people."

"Underwater" is scheduled to arrive in the U.S. on January 10, 2020.
