Bosses at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts are hosting a series of celebrations beginning on Thursday evening (August 15) with a performance by Woodstock veteran Arlo Guthrie - and now there's no Woodstock 50 event, they are expecting fans to focus their attention on the smaller gathering 80 miles (130 kilometers) northwest of New York City.

Thursday's opening night festivities will also include an outdoor screening of the Woodstock concert documentary.

John Fogerty and Carlos Santana, who were both billed to be part of the cancelled Woodstock 50 festival, will also be a part of the weekend fun, alongside Ringo Starr.

An estimated 400,000 people turned up for the first Woodstock weekend in August, 1969.
