Before welcoming the 'Millionaire' singer to the stage, the 'New Light' crooner explains that the two of them wrote 'I Just Remembered That I Didn't Care' a day earlier.

AceShowbiz - Country music superstar Chris Stapleton joined John Mayer onstage in Tennessee on Thursday night (August 08) to perform a track the odd couple wrote the night before.

Stapleton was Mayer's surprise guest on the Nashville stop of his "Evening with John Mayer Tour", and joined the "Daughters" singer for a brand new duet.

Introducing "I Just Remembered That I Didn't Care", Mayer said, "I'd like to invite a friend to the stage. I texted this friend and said, 'Hey, I'd love to have you sit in'. I said, 'Do you want to do one of your songs or one of my songs?' And he said, 'We can do either, or we can just write a song and then go play it...'"

"I said, 'Challenge accepted'. I got to town yesterday, we met up in the studio, we wrote this song yesterday, and we’re going to play it for you."

Stapleton hung around for one more song - a rendition of Mayer's "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room".
