Australian actress Markella Kavenagh is set to play a character named Tyra on the upcoming TV series, though the details of her characters are being kept tightly under wraps for now.

AceShowbiz - Amazon's "Lord of the Rings" TV adaptation has announced its first regular cast member. Multiple sources reveal that young Australian actress Markella Kavenagh has been tapped to take on a role on the upcoming fantasy series, Variety reports.

According to the site, Kavenagh is set to play a character named Tyra. Unfortunately, the details of her characters are being kept tightly under wraps for now. The name is never mentioned in J.R.R. Tolkien's works, prompting fans to assume that Tyra is either a decoy name or a brand-new character invented strictly for the series.

Prior to this, Kavenagh starred in some impressive projects. Her credits include "Romper Stomper" and "The Cry". Most recently, she appeared on "Picnic At Hanging Rock" which also starred Natalie Dormer, Lily Sullivan, Lola Bessis and Harrison Gilbertson among others.

Hailing from JD Payne and Patrick McKay, "Lord of the Rings" series will explore new storylines preceding Tolkien's "The Fellowship of the Ring". Previously, the official Twitter account of the upcoming series teased fans with an image and a map that came along with two messages.

"One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them, In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie," one of the messages read. Meanwhile, the other read, "Welcome to the Second Age." In the Tolkien mythology, the Second Age was when the Rings of Power, including Sauron's One Ring, came into existence.

Bryan Cogman ("Game of Thrones") is attached as a consultant. Meanwhile, J.A. Bayona is set to direct multiple episodes of the TV series. Gennifer Hutching ("Breaking Bad") pens the show alongside Payne and McKay, which aims a 2021 release date. The show is produced by Amazon Studios in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line Cinema, a division of Warner Bros. Entertainment.
