The 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory' actress was rushed to an emergency room on July 8 after she reportedly tried to overdose on prescription medication at home.

AceShowbiz - "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" actress Denise Nickerson has been taken off life support after suffering a seizure.

The former child star, who played Violet Beauregarde in the 1971 classic, was admitted to a hospital emergency room on Monday (July 08) after reportedly trying to overdose on prescription medication at home, her family tells TMZ.

Doctors diagnosed her with pneumonia, but on Tuesday, she had a massive seizure and was placed on life support.

Her condition continued to worsen, leading her loved ones to decide to stop treatment and have the 62-year-old removed from the respirator, which had been helping her breathe.

Nickerson's son Josh has since launched a GoFundMe campaign in a bid to raise funds to honour his mother's final wishes to have her remains cremated and made into a piece of glass artwork.

The news of her imminent death emerges a year after Nickerson was left fighting for her life after suffering a stroke.

She had previously also starred in educational children's show "The Electric Company", soap operas "Dark Shadows" and "Search for Tomorrow", and an episode of "The Brady Bunch", before quitting acting in 1978 to become a nurse.
