AceShowbiz - "Spider-Man: Far From Home" goes beyond expectations in its first week. The latest Marvel superhero movie from Sony Pictures leads the North American chart with an estimated $93.6 million over its three-day weekend.

Released on Tuesday, July 2, the Tom Holland-starring movie entered the weekend with over $91 million already in its bag, bringing its six-day total to over $185 million. It exceeded industry expectations, which previously predicted the movie would bring in $125 million from Tuesday through Sunday, according to Sony.

It's good news not just for the studios which produced the movie, but also for the industry overall. The domestic box office had been having a rough summer, with some potential blockbusters like "Men In Black: International", "Dark Phoenix" and "Toy Story 4" underperforming in recent weeks.

"Spider-Man gave this summer the jolt it needed," Shawn Robbins, chief analyst at Boxoffice.com, told CNN Business. " 'Far From Home's' ability to win over audiences is further proof that audiences are just looking for good movies, sequels or otherwise."

Taking place in the aftermath of the devastating deaths in "Avengers: Endgame", "Far From Home" was lauded by critics, holding a 91% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film directed by Jon Watts also earned an average grade of "A" on CinemaScore.

Disney-Pixar's "Toy Story 4" is moved to the second place after two weeks on the throne, adding an estimated $34.3 million to its domestic revenue. The Beatles-themed romantic comedy "Yesterday" stays on its third place with an estimated $10.8 million, while "Annabelle Comes Home" drops two places to No. 4 with approximately $9.8 million. "Aladdin" slips one spot and rounds out the top five with an estimated $7.6 million.

Meanwhile, A24's "Midsommar", the latest horror movie from Ari Aster, brings in an estimated $6.6 million over the weekend and $10.9 million since its Wednesday release. Debuting at No. 13, it posts the largest indie opening of the year.
