Although not much is known of the prequel pilot, it has been confirmed that it 'chronicles the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour,' adding that 'it's not the story we think we know.'

AceShowbiz - More details about upcoming "Game of Thrones" series have made their way out online. Months after the mothership series wraps its story with a controversial end, it is reported that the filming of the new series will be starting sometime with this month.

According to HN Entertainment, the prequel pilot, which working title is "Bloodmoon", will film in Italy in mid-July. The production is expected to head the Italian coast after filming Northern Island ends on July 10.

Other details of the planned pilot have been kept tightly under wraps. Fans know very little of the project except that it will take place 5000 years before the events of the original show, way before the predate Valyria, where House Targaryen raises their dragons, exists.

"Westeros is a very different place," author George R.R. Martin, who will serve as executive producer and co-creator of the new pilot series, previously explained. "There's no King's Landing. There's no Iron Throne. There are no Targaryens -- Valyria has hardly begun to rise yet with its dragons and the great empire that it built. We're dealing with a different and older world and hopefully that will be part of the fun of the series."

The prequel pilot "chronicles the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros' history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend... it's not the story we think we know."

Attached to star on the planned project are Naomi Watts, Josh Whitehouse, Miranda Richardson and Jamie Campbell Bower. The cast also includes Toby Regbo, Georgie Henley, Alex Sharp, Naomi Ackie, Marquis Rodriguez, John Simms, Richard McCabe, John Heffernan and Dixie Egerickx.

Their characters remain to be seen, while Watts is set to play a lead character which is described as a "charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret." Of her starring in the pilot, the 50-year-old actress said, "It makes me very excited, yeah, goosebumps all over. It is intimidating. It's very exciting. And yes, having just come off the last series, where the world was blowing up over it."
