A modern take on the whodunit murder mystery, the star-studded movie directed by Rian Johnson follows a murder investigation of a family patriarch where everyone is a suspect.

AceShowbiz - Lionsgate Movies has released the first trailer for "Knives Out" from "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" director Rian Johnson. Dubbed a fun, modern-day murder mystery where everyone is a suspect, the movie features Chris Evans and Daniel Craig in roles unlike they have been seen before.
The story begins when renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday. The inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate.
All members of Thrombey's family who have gathered around for the party, including daughter Linda (Jamie Lee Curtis), son Walt (Michael Shannon) and grandson Ransom (Evans), are not ruled out as the suspects by Detective Blanc.
From Harlan's dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan's untimely death. But much to Blanc's surprise, Ransom seems to underestimate him and ignore his order to not leave the house during the investigation.
Also making up the star-studded cast are Ana De Armas, Toni Collette, Don Johnson, LaKeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford, Noah Segan, Edi Patterson, Riki Lindhome and Jaeden Martell. Rian Johnson directs the movie, which script he also wrote himself.
"The idea was to take everything I love about a great Agatha Christie story and put it into a new original story set in modern-day America," he tells EW about the inspiration for the movie. "That’s kind of the essence of it."
He also talks about the challenge that Craig and Evans took to play the characters. "He has a blast with it," he says of the Bond star's accent. "It's not cartoony. It's not too crazy but it's very fun."
As for Evans, Johnson praises him, "Chris is a terrific actor with great range, and in a change of gear from what we've seen him do lately he plays Harlan's ne'er-do-well spoiled grandson. He turns on the swagger and devilish charm. It's really fun to watch."
"Knives Out" is set to bow in the U.S. On November 27.
