He was recently spotted in public for the first time in almost two years, but according to one article, the "Friends" alum didn't look too good and seemed unwell. This prompted Matthew, who barely posts anything on social media, to debunk the claims.
The photos featured him enjoying an afternoon stroll in New York City. While he appeared to look normal, Daily Mail noted that he appeared "disheveled and bloated" and called attention to his "long dirty fingernails." The site suggested that his appearance that day was hinting that he was "struggling with his health once again."
But that is actually not the case. Reading the story and deciding to respond to it on social media, Matthew jokingly wrote on Twitter, "I'm getting a manicure this morning. That's okay right? I mean it says man right in the word."
His followers got in the humor as well, with some referring to a "Friends" scene in which his character, Chandler Bing, went to a nail salon with Jennifer Aniston's character Rachel Green. "Manicure with Rachel? Better not find Janice's nails," one said, making a reference to the character portrayed by Maggie Wheeler.
Last August, Matthew, who has been candid about his struggles with alcohol and addiction, underwent a surgery at a hospital in Los Angeles to repair a gastrointestinal perforation. "He is grateful for the concern and asks for continued privacy as he heals," his rep said at the time. Later in September, the "17 Again" actor updated his fans by saying that he'd spent three months in the hospital, though he didn't give other details on the condition of his health.
"Three months in a hospital bed. Check," he wrote.
According to Mayo Clinic, a gastrointerstinal perforation occurs when a hole develops in the lining of the throat to rectum area and can be caused by various factors like Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and appendicitis.
