83-year-old pensioner Irene Mayor was involved in an accident with a police motorbike guarding the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as they travelled from London to Windsor.

AceShowbiz - An elderly woman has been seriously injured in an accident involving Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge's police escort.

The British royals were travelling from London to Windsor, England on Monday (June 17) when a police motorbike guarding them was involved in the accident with 83-year-old pensioner Irene Mayor. The collision occurred in East Sheen, south west London.

Officials at royal residence Kensington Palace told the BBC the couple are "deeply concerned and saddened" by the incident.

"Their Royal Highnesses have sent their very best wishes to Irene and her family and will stay in touch throughout every stage of her recovery," the royal representative added.

William and Catherine have spoken to Irene, who is in a serious but stable condition in hospital, and sent her flowers.

Officials from Britain's Independent Office for Police Conduct are investigating the accident.
