The animated sequel to the 2016 film falls slightly below initial expectations of $50 million in its debut earnings, but the latest 'X-Men' movie opens to a disappointing result in North America.

AceShowbiz - "The Secret Life of Pets 2" has topped the North American box office in its opening weekend (June 07-09).
The animated sequel to the 2016 original, which stars Kevin Hart and Patton Oswalt, fell slightly below initial expectations of $50 million (£39.3 million) with $47.1 million (£37 million) in earnings. Globally, the movie has earned $97 million (£76.2 million).
"X-Men" franchise film "Dark Phoenix", meanwhile, had a disappointing debut with $33 million (£26 million) in its opening weekend, while the "Aladdin" remake came in third with $24 million (£18.8 million).
"Godzilla: King of the Monsters" and "Rocketman" rounded out the top five with $15.5 million (£12.2 million) and $13.7 million (£10.8 million), respectively.
