Although Nicky Byrne told concertgoers that the band decided to go ahead to give them the best show that they could, many of those who paid extra still grumble over the production error.

AceShowbiz - Disabled and elderly Westlife fans are furious after they were forced to stand at their gig in Glasgow, Scotland, despite paying for premium seats.

The Irish boyband played the city's The SSE Hydro arena on Tuesday night, May 28, but the concert was an unhappy experience for those who'd paid extra for VIP seats, as they were forced to stand due to logistical issues.

Westlife devotee Mhairi-Louise Brennan told the BBC she paid nearly $250 (£200) each for her tickets, as she was with a cousin with a disability.

"We got a notification just to advise that due to a production error the whole concert would be standing so our VIP third-row seats no longer existed," she said. "We were with my cousin who has a disability and is not able to stand for long periods of time, so it is a bit unfair."

According to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, bandmember Nicky Byrne did address the issue on stage, saying, "The options were, at 7 o'clock tonight, no show or give them the best show that we could give them, which would mean standing on the floor for you guys. Rather than send you all home and postpone for another night we thought we'd just go out and give them a great show."

Others were angered, however, as they were unable to attend. Sophie Campbell, who suffers from asthma, tried to take her elderly mother to the concert but told Glasgow's Evening Times she had to leave after being denied a wheelchair.

"I asked for a wheelchair for my disabled mother and was told she can either deal with it and stand or go home and come back to the Hydro tomorrow for a refund, so I've got to drive all way back to Glasgow for a refund," she fumed.

Other fans with arthritis also suffered problems, and many were aggrieved as they were only informed there would be no seating just before the gig, in a statement posted on the venue's website.

Nicky and bandmates Kian Egan, Nicky Byrne, Mark Feehily and Shane Filan's tour continues in Manchester on Thursday, May 30.
