BAFTA TV Awards 2019: 'Killing Eve' and 'Patrick Melrose' Come Out Triumphant

The Jodie Comer-starring spy thriller series secures three awards at the Graham Norton-hosted ceremony, while the Benedict Cumberbatch-starring mini-series brings home two gongs.

AceShowbiz - Hit dramas "Killing Eve and "Patrick Melrose" were the toast of the British Academy Television Awards on Sunday night, May 12.

Sandra Oh's series was the night's big winner with three awards, including Drama Series and a Leading Actress honour for co-star Jodie Comer, while Benedict Cumberbatch scored the Leading Actor award as "Patrick Melrose" landed a double.

After landing his first BAFTA, the "Sherlock" star told reporters backstage, "It is in an incredibly special thing to be a part of. To land material as good as this, you better not screw it up. To be validated by BAFTA is incredible."

Fiona Shaw also picked up a Supporting Actress prize for "Killing Eve", while "Patrick Melrose" was also honoured with the Mini-Series award at the ceremony, hosted by Graham Norton at London's Royal Festival Hall.

There were also wins for "Paddington" actor Ben Whishaw, who was feted for his portrayal of Norman Scott in the drama series "A Very English Scandal"; Steve Pemberton and Jessica Hynes, who picked up the main comedy acting gongs, and "Sally4Ever", which was named Best Scripted Comedy.

Meanwhile, British TV icon Joan Bakewell was handed a Fellowship to BAFTA.
