The speculation raises from Michelle 'MJ' Jones' (Zendaya) observant behaviors as well as her fashion style that draw similarities to those of the former S.H.I.E.L.D. director.

AceShowbiz - Is Marvel hiding another twist related to Zendaya Coleman's character Michelle "MJ" Jones? After insisting that she's not the MJ (Mary Jane) that fans know in the comic lore, the studio might be dropping another bomb regarding her paternity in "Spider-Man: Far From Home".

According to a fan theory, MJ is the daughter of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), who kept his family away when he went into hiding after he was targeted by Hydra in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier". Posted by Reddit user u/findmywallet on the site's r/FanTheories subreddit, the theory is based on MJ's behaviors of "creeping up on people" and being observant of her peers, something which Fury is usually doing for his job.

The said Internet user also points to MJ's fashion style, which mostly consists of black outfits, similar to Fury's clandestine wear. The fan additionally claims that MJ's hair style usually covers one of her eyes, which is probably a clue she's related to the eyepatch-wearing Fury.

Another user, u/Danishroyalty, adds that when Fury hijacks Peter Parker's (Tom Holland) overseas trip with his classmates in the upcoming movie, he might not just ask for Peter's help to save the world from elemental-powered monsters. It's believed that Fury is acting as a disapproving dad looking out for his daughter, though it's not clear if he's estranged from his daughter or not.

"Spider-Man" comic book lore has often presented familiar drama, with Peter's best friend Harry Osborn being the son of Spider-Man's archenemy Norman Osborn a.k.a. Green Goblin. Meanwhile, his first major love, Gwen Stacy, is the daughter of New York police captain George Stacy.

Speaking of Fury's role, director Jon Watts recently opened up to USA Today about his idea to include the character into the "Spider-Man" franchise as a counter to Peter's mentor/father figure Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). "If Tony is like the supportive cool uncle, Fury's more like the mean new stepdad," Watts said.

"Fury doesn't see himself in Peter Parker. Fury sees Peter Parker as an asset that he needs who is too preoccupied with a bunch of high school problems," he went on explaining. "Part of my pitch for the very first movie was bringing Nick Fury in and making him the mean substitute teacher."

"Spider-Man: Far From Home" is set to open in theaters nationwide on July 2.
