Variety's Justin Kroll reports that the 'Bumblebee' actor is up for the role of Peacemaker, which was originally offered to the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' star.

AceShowbiz - "The Suicide Squad" lineup looks like going to be a heavy-hitting one. Rumor has it that John Cena is being eyed for one of the lead roles in the upcoming movie, which has James Gunn on board as director as well as writer.

Cena's rumored casting, however, brings sad news for Dave Bautista's fans. According to Variety's Justin Kroll, the WWE star is in talks for the role of Peacemaker, which was originally offered to the "Guardians of the Galaxy" star. Bautista, a retired professional wrestler, is said to have turned down the role because of his busy schedules. With their similar career backgrounds, Cena sounds to be a perfect replacement for the role.

Should the deal be sealed, Cena will join Idris Elba, who was previously reported to have been cast to fill the void left by Will Smith. The "Luther" actor, however, will not take over the role of Deadshot, but play a brand new character, which is still undisclosed.

Words were the decision was made because there was concern over "disrespecting Smith, who helped bring this character to life for the first time, by replacing him with Elba." There's also hope that if there's more "Suicide Squad" films in the future and Smith is willing to reprise the role, the door is always open for him to return.

The upcoming "Suicide Squad" movie is described as not a sequel to the 2017 film. "It's not 'Suicide Squad 2'. It is not a sequel. I will leave that alone but, yes, it's called 'The Suicide Squad'," producer Peter Safran has confirmed.

Though it's billed as not a sequel to "Suicide Squad", some of the original stars are still expected to return. Margot Robbie is assumed to return as Harley Quinn, while Viola Davis and Jai Courtney are expected to reprise their roles as Captain Boomerang and Amanda Waller, respectively. Joel Kinnaman is also said to return as Rick Flag, though it was previously believed that he wouldn't be coming back.

The new "Suicide Squad" movie is slated to arrive on August 6, 2021 in the United States.
