The Warner Bros. superhero movie is still triumphant on its second weekend, while the 'Hellboy' remake is defeated by fellow newcomer and comedy film 'Little'.

AceShowbiz - "Shazam!" blasted past its competitors at North American box office. The Warner Bros. superhero movie proved to be unchallenged on its second weekend as it remains atop the chart with an estimated $25.1 million, easily edging out newcomers and other films.

Remaining solid with a 53% drop in ticket sales from last week, the DC comic book adaptation starring Zachary Levi has collected $94.9 million domestically for a current worldwide total of $258.8 million so far.

Heading into the weekend, "Hellboy (2019)" was expected to challenge "Shazam!" for the No. 1 spot. But with terrible reviews from critics (15% "fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes), Neil Marshall's take on the Dark Horse Comics character starring David Harbour as the title character disappointed with an estimated $12 million opening against its $50 million budget.

For comparison, the 2004 original movie debuted to $23 million on its first weekend, while the 2008 sequel, "Hellboy II: The Golden Army", posted $34.5 million opening. Both movies were directed by Guillermo de Toro and starred Ron Perlman.

Milla Jovovich, who stars as the villain Blood Queen in the "Hellboy" reboot, recently responded to the negative reviews for the movie. "It's always stressful on opening weekend and @hellboymovie is no different," she admitted in an Instagram post. "You work super hard to make something fun and entertaining and have to absorb the negative reviews by movie critics, but hey! THAT'S SHOWBIZ BABY."

Anyway, every one of those films is now a cult classic. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. And this will be too. Mark my words. Why? 1. Because of the amazing actors. David Harbour. Ian Mcshane. Daniel Dae Kim. Sasha Lane. They are all so damn wonderful and talented, the movie is worth seeing just because they’re in it, especially one that’s so much fun to experience as this is. 2. @mikemignola who created the #Hellboy comics helped write the script and was on set every single day to make this film as close to his vision as possible. 3. It was directed by one of the greats. #NeilMarshall who brought us “The Descent”. One of the greatest horror movies ever. Trust me, you’re gonna have a blast watching the new @hellboymovie. With the disappointing opening number, "Hellboy" was defeated by "Little" for the runner-up spot. The comedy movie from the "Girls Trip" producer, William Packer, came in second with approximately $15.5 million.

Jim Orr, Universal Pictures distribution chief, credited the cast, Tina Gordon Chism's direction and Packer's overall know-how for the movie's performance. " 'Little' doesn't look like anything else out there right now. More importantly, Will Packer continues to deliver great films for a very diverse audience," Orr said. "He really does understand an audience and knows how to put together great casts and great writing."

"Pet Sematary" dropped two places to No. 4 with an estimated $10 million for a current domestic gross of $41.1 million and a current worldwide total of $76.8 million. "Dumbo" also slipped two spots to No. 5 with approximately $9.2 million, bringing its worldwide cume to $266.9 million so far.
