Additionally, it is reported that Lucasfilm is aiming to give the big budget live-action TV series a second season before it even airs this fall when the streaming service launches.

AceShowbiz - Disney+ has unveiled the release date for its upcoming "Star Wars" spin-off TV series "The Mandalorian". Hailing from Jon Favreau, the series will be available on the Disney's upcoming streaming service from launch.

The live-action TV series is set to be the highlight of the new streaming series. "We're trying to make it look like Star Wars. A lot of visual effects, a lot of editing," Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said, adding that filming on the first season of the series has wrapped and Favreau is hard at work finishing the big budget project.

The first season will consist of eight episodes with Favreau believing that it will serve as a good entry point to those who may not be familiar with "Star Wars". "Since we're starting with new characters in a new time period, it's a great way to bring new fans in," he said.

Despite the new feelings, Favreau noted that the series included some old school techniques that have become a hallmark of the franchise. "Star Wars demands a certain nod and look back to history with audio-animatronics and puppets," he said.

Favreau also played the first footage of the upcoming series during an investors day for the streaming service. The clip reportedly featured new planets, new aliens species, and new starships, as well as a glimpse at what people assumed to be the Mandalorian.

Additionally, HN Entertainment claims that Lucasfilm is aiming to give the streaming series a second season before it even airs on November 12 when Disney+ launches.

Starring Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Nick Nolte, Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito among others, "The Mandalorian" will follow another warrior who emerges in the Star Wars universe after the stories of Jang and Boba Fett. "The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic," reads its official synopsis.

It has also been revealed that the series, which is set after 1983's "The Return of the Jedi" and before the villainous First Order rose to replace the Empire, will be having eight episodes for its first season. Dave Filoni, Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, and Deborah Chow helm the series.

The subscription price for Disney+ is $6.99 a month or $69.99 for a year.
