LucasFilm confirms that an upcoming movie based on the popular Disney+ series is in development with the series creator set to direct and produce the project titled 'The Mandalorian + Grogu'.

AceShowbiz - "The Mandalorian" is heading for the big screen. LucasFilm has announced the Disney+ series creator, Jon Favreau, is to direct and produce "The Mandalorian + Grogu", though it is currently unconfirmed if Pedro Pascal will be reprising his role as bounty hunter Din Djarin for the movie.

Jon said in a statement, "I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created. The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting."

He will be joined as producer by LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni. Kathleen said, "Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into 'Star Wars' two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen."

A fourth season of "The Mandalorian" is currently in development and the movie is likely to be the first film in the "Star Wars" universe since 2019's "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker".

In November, "Ahsoka" director Dave spoke of his excitement at his new role at Lucasfilm, which would allow him to be hands-on from the beginning of all projects in the "Star Wars" world.

He told Vanity Fair magazine, "Now I'm what's called chief creative officer of Lucasfilm. In the past, in a lot of projects I would be brought into, I would see it after it had already developed a good ways. In this new role, it's opened up to basically everything that's going on. When we're planning the future of what we're doing now, I'm involved at the inception phase."

When it comes to his process, he insisted he won't be "telling people what to do," but he will try to "help them tell the best story," describing it as "a Jedi Council."
