AceShowbiz - Home insurance officials have asked lawmakers in California to dismiss a lawsuit filed against them by actress Shannen Doherty.

The former "Charmed" star launched legal action against State Farm General Insurance agents in February, following a dispute over her California home, which was damaged in the Woolsey wildfire, which ripped through huge areas of the state last year (2018).

Shannen was not happy with the settlement claim offered to her by the insurers, who would only pay for two weeks of coverage for a temporary residence while her pad was being repaired, so she sued, seeking indemnification for all losses covered under her policy and unspecified damages for wrongful denial of benefits.

However, State Farm bosses have now hit back, accusing the actress of having "failed to take adequate steps to mitigate the damages claimed, if any".

In court papers obtained by The Blast, they add, "To the extent that Plaintiff's damages have been increased by her failure to so mitigate, she should be barred from recovering against State Farm."

Officials insist she did not "satisfy all condition precedent to her rights, if any, to benefits under the insurance policy issued by State Farm," while they have also accused Doherty of not taking required actions after the fire to honour their agreement.

They have asked the judge overseeing the dispute to shut down the case.
