AceShowbiz - Luke Perry's daughter has broken her silence after her father's untimely passing on Monday, March 4. Sophie Perry took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a heartfelt post along with a photo of her with her late father.
"A lot has happened in this past week for me. Everything is happening so fast," she began her statement. Sophie revealed she rushed back from Malawi to be with her family after learning of her father's stroke. "And in the past 24 hours I have received an overwhelming amount of love and support," she added, thanking people for the outpouring support. "I cannot individually respond to the hundreds of beautiful and heartfelt messages, but I see them, and appreciate you all for sending positivity to my family and I."
She continued, "I'm not really sure what to say or do in this situation, it's something you aren't ever given a lesson on how to handle, especially when it's all happening in the public eye. So bear with me and know that I am grateful for all the love. Just, being grateful quietly."
Luke's "Beverly Hills, 90210" co-star Shannen Doherty has released a statement after initially grieving his death in silence. "Yesterday morning I got a phone call that devastated me. I'm struggling with this loss and am having a hard time with my thoughts," she shared. "But, my heart goes out to his family and friends who were blessed by his light in their (and mine) lives. Processing this is impossible right now."
Shannen previously said she had been in touch with Luke after he was hospitalized for a massive stroke. "I can't talk about it here 'cause I will literally start crying," the former "Charmed" star told Entertainment Tonight at The Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation's Compassion Project Gala in Los Angeles on Sunday. She asked fans to "just keep [sending] positive wonderful thoughts."
Also reacting to Luke's sudden passing, Sarah Michelle Gellar said on Instagram on Monday that she had to console her friend Shannen "while she mourns the loss of [Luke Perry.]" She added, "This is not how it's supposed to happen. I hope his family knows many lives he touched."
Meanwhile, actor Colin Hanks, Tom Hanks' son, shared his fond memory of Luke. In a lengthy Instagram post, he recalled how the "Riverdale" star saved the day when young children of fellow passengers got rowdy during a flight.
"Then about 10 minutes before landing it starts to get real bad. Out of no where, a man comes from first class. Hat, beard, sunglasses, blowing up a balloon. He ties it off, hands it off like he's holding out a sword to a king. Kneeling, Head down, arms up," he dramatically recalled. "Kids calm down in milliseconds. Plane damn near bursts into applause. 15 minutes longer and it probably would have started WWIII, but we landed before that could happen."
When they landed, "as luck would have it we end up standing next to each other," Colin said. "Out of the blue he turns to me and says some kind words about Fargo, which kinda blew my mind. I start singing his praises about how long I've admired him and also about the move with the balloon."
Mourning his death, Colin concluded, "Guy seemed like a true gent. Gone way too damn soon. Also, I'll be damned if I don't start traveling with some spare balloons #promove #rip #lukeperry #truegent."
Luke was engaged to Wendy Madison Bauer at the time of his death. He's also survived by son Jack from his marriage to Rachel Minnie Sharp. He was 52.
