Artist of the Week: Offset

While the rapper always releases praiseworthy music with his group Migos, he also proves that his solo music is as good as his group's songs.

AceShowbiz - Despite all the personal life drama surrounding Offset, we can't deny his musical abilities. As a group, he and his fellow Migos members have always offered something worthy of praises from music critics, and so does his solo music. For instance, his debut solo album "Father of 4" was greeted with positive reviews in addition to doing well on music charts.

Making its way out on February 22, the effort featured the rapper getting candid about his personal life, and that is different from the type of music that Migos usually goes for. In an interview, Offset also noted that he tried to make "Father of 4" sound like a playlist rather than an album. "When I say I want a playlist vibe, I'm still giving you content with the songs -- real s**t that's going on. It's an album of what I've been going through here and there and what got me to this point," he explained.

His intention apparently was conveyed well as many critics heaped praises for "Father of 4". While Sam Moore of NME described the effort as a "fine body of work," Trent Clark of HipHopDX stated, "Offset digs deep into his Atlanta Hip Hop lineage, crafting an album that's equal parts rare in this climate (seeing it follows an unfolding narrative) and refreshing, given its telling content."

In addition to that, the album debuted at No. 4 on Billboard 200 chart with 89,000 units as the lead single off the album, "Red Room", peaked at No. 22 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. "Father of 4" marked his second top ten album outside of Migos. He previously reached the top five of Billboard 200 with "Without Warning", his collaborative album with 21 Savage and Metro Boomin.

Consisting of ten tracks in total, "Without Warning" included Offset's highest-charting single "Roc Flair Dip". It peaked at No. 13 on Billboard's Hot 100 and made it to Complex Media's list of Best Song in 2017. Additionally, the track was certified platinum before even being released as a single, marking his first platinum song as a lead artist.
