The 'Criminal' singer takes to social media to assure fans that she doesn't have cancer, adding that she is undergoing surgery to remove the abnormal cell growth out of her body.

AceShowbiz - Country singer Lindsay Ell is undergoing surgery to remove an abnormal cell growth.

The 29-year-old took to social media on Thursday morning (February 28) to inform fans she's taking a break to deal with the health issue.

"I don't have cancer, but the doctor found pre-cancerous cells growing in my body that need to be removed," she wrote in an Instagram post.

"Sometimes we think we're fine. Sometimes we think we eat healthy and workout, and that means we should be fine. But never underestimate the power of a check up at the doctor. You never know, and if you catch something early enough, it could save your life. Going in for surgery today, gonna get this stuff out of my body."

The news comes a week after the "Waiting on You" singer scored her first-ever ACM Awards nomination for New Female Artist of the Year - she will be up against Carly Pearce, Ashley McBryde and Danielle Bradbery when the honours are handed out at a ceremony in Las Vegas on April 7.
