In a statement he issued after Ronald Todd Milsap was found dead on his houseboat, the 'Smoky Mountain Rain' singer describes his late son as 'a force of joy, life, creativity and giving.'

AceShowbiz - Country music icon Ronnie Milsap has been left reeling after his 49-year-old son Todd was found dead on Saturday, February 23.

Police in Nashville, Tennessee reveal Ronald Todd Milsap's body was discovered on his houseboat in the neighbourhood of Antioch by his son, who had gone to check in on him after failing to hear from his father in two days.

A cause of death has yet to be released, but authorities believe his passing was medically related.

Ronnie has since issued a statement addressing the news, with the "Smoky Mountain Rain" singer admitting he and his wife, Joyce, are still trying to process the heartbreaking loss of their only child.

"Our son Todd was a force of joy, life, creativity and giving from the moment he was born. He made such a mark on our world in his years on this planet; everyone who met him was richer for it," the musician told The Tennessean.

"It is too soon to even understand this loss, and I hope it's something no one has to bare. Please keep his three children, their mothers and Joyce and I in your prayers at such a fragile time."

Todd had worked behind the scenes in the music industry, helping his 76-year-old dad plan his albums, tours, and other appearances.

It's not yet clear if the family tragedy will affect Milsap's concert plans - he is next due on stage in Lexington, Kentucky on Thursday, February 28.
