Multiple individuals have come with contradicting statements after it's reported that the 'Call Me by Your Name' actor is in final talks to play the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves' movie.

AceShowbiz - Armie Hammer has been linked to the role of Batman, which is left vacant after Ben Affleck officially announced that he wouldn't return in future DC-Warner Bros. movie(s). Revenge of the Fans reported that the 32-year-old hunk "has entered advanced talks" about playing Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeves' "The Batman".

Should the report be true, this won't be the first time Hammer is chosen to play the Caped Crusader. Back in 2007, he was attached to play the character in George Miller's "Justice League: Mortal". The planned superhero team-up movie had also cast D.J. Cotrona and Adam Brody, but the project fell apart due to the 07-08 Writers Guild of America strike.

Hammer's fans, however, may need to hold themselves back from celebrating the casting news. In contrary to Revenge of the Fans' report, multiple individuals deny that the actor has been tapped for the role.

TheWrap's Umberto Gonzales tweeted in response to the news, "Armie Hammer. Batman. Not true."

He explained why Hammer would be an unlikely choice for the role, adding in another tweet, "Also, Armie Hammer is 32 and I'm also told the role of Bruce is going to be younger. There are no targeted names YET."

Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter echoed this, posting on his own Twitter account, "I'm not in the business of debunking bunk but considering everyone got in a tizzy over this...there is no truth to the below. Being told there haven't even been any actor meetings for THE BATMAN. (But that doesn't mean Reeves and WB don't have ideas of who they would like)."

The upcoming stand-alone Batman movie will reportedly focus on a younger Bruce Wayne. Reeves previously shared his vision for the movie, saying, "It's more Batman in his detective mode than we've seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He's supposed to be the world's greatest detective, and that's not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been."

He went on sharing, "I'd love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it's going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation."

The film eyes a summer 2021 release.
