'Bohemian Rhapsody' Lands Major Prize at 2019 Cinema Audio Society Awards

The Queen biopic wins Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing in the film group, while 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' and 'American Crime Story' top the TV section.

AceShowbiz - "Bohemian Rhapsody" has picked up another major honour a week before the Oscars, after landing the top film honour at the 55th annual Cinema Audio Society Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing.

The Queen biopic is up for the same prize at the Academy Awards on February 24.

Production mixer John Casali and re-recording mixers Paul Massey, Tim Cavagin and Niv Adiri picked up the award for their work on the movie.

They beat out the sound editing teams behind "A Star Is Born", "Black Panther", "First Man", "A Quiet Place".

"The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", "Mozart in the Jungle", and "American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace" took the top TV honours for one-hour and half-hour shows, and movie or limited series at the ceremony at the Wilshire Grand Ballroom of the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown on Saturday night (February 16).

Other winners included "Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown" (Television, Non-Fiction, Variety or Music Series or Specials), the Oscar-nominated "Free Solo" (Motion Picture, Documentary), and "Isle of Dogs" (Motion Picture, Animated).

"The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" was also a big winner at the sixth annual Make-Up and Hair Stylists Guild Awards on Saturday night. The show picked up two honours for Best Period and/or Character Makeup and Best Period and/or Character Hairstyling.

Dick Cheney biopic "Vice (2018)" claimed a couple of prizes too - for Best Period and/or Character Makeup and Special Makeup Effects, while "Mary Queen of Scots" won for Best Period and/or Character Hairstyling and "A Star Is Born" and "Crazy Rich Asians" claimed the Best Contemporary prizes for Makeup and Hairstyling, respectively.
