The Peabody Award-winning comedian helps apprehend a man who attempts to steal a $150,000 ring at a jewelry shop in New York.

AceShowbiz - Russell Peters is a real-life vigilante. The Canadian stand-up comedian recently prevented an attempted robbery at a jewelry store in New York City and his heroic action was caught on the security footage to prove it all.

In the video obtained by TMZ, Russell was seen walking around the NYC Diamond District store on Tuesday, February 12, when the alleged thief was already sitting in front of an employee. While Russell was standing at a nearby counter, the man wearing a dark stocking cap suddenly got up and tried to get away with a $150,000 ring.

The employee chased the man who walked past Russell, but he got stopped at the door. The man got physical and tried to make a break for it, and that's when the 48-year-old actor got involved in the matter. Russell and another employee held down the man, before an officer showed up.

Law enforcement sources confirm that the 27-year-old man attempted to make off with the ring. Russell is listed as one of the witnesses who stopped the culprit. The man has been charged with robbery and criminal possession of stolen property, according to police report.

The Canadian Press reports that Russell is in New York for a series of sold-out shows on Long Island and in New Jersey. His brother and manager Clayton Peters says that the jewelry store is owned by a friend of "The Con Artist" star. He was there to visit his friend.

Russell had a good reason to be confident in taking down the thief as he has trained in Brazilian jiu-jitsu for years under famous black belt Jean Jacques Machado. Clayton says the Emmy Award and Peabody Award-winning comic has given a statement to police.
