AceShowbiz - Before the annual 91st Academy Awards takes place on February 24, actors nominated at the event gathered for the annual Luncheon on Monday, February 4 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles. Among those who attended the event were Lady GaGa, Bradley Cooper, Spike Lee and Rami Malek.
Academy president John Bailey kicked things off by delivering a speech about various topics, including the diversity of this year's nominee. He noted that this year had the largest number of female nominees to date.
"Gender party is an industry matter, not just an Academy matter," he said. "In front of and behind the camera, inclusion, diversity, racial, ethnic and gender equality are not just buzzwords. They get to the heart of what our Academy is doing, out ongoing intiative that by 2020, all 17 branches are dedicated to a truer representation of who we are in movie scripts, casts and in our shooting a post-production sets."
One thing that he didn't address during his speech was the fact that there's no host for the upcoming event.
On the other hand, Donna Gigliotti, who is producing this year's Oscars, warned the potential winners that they would have 90 seconds once their name is called to make it to the stage and complete an acceptance speech. The Academy vowed the show would not run longer than three hours.
Elsewhere in the room, GaGa proposed a toast to her table mates that included Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and "BlacKkKlansman" composer Terence Blanchard. She also took a selfie with fellow nominee Richard E. Grant. Meanwhile, her "A Star Is Born" co-star Cooper was spotted having an excited, impromptu meeting with Lee in a corner of the ballroom. Their conversation was full of laughter and gesticulations.
