Prior to winning Best Actor prize at the 2019 SAG Awards, the 'Bohemian Rhapsody' star was asked what he was most surprised about when researching about the late Queen frontman.

AceShowbiz - Rami Malek was stunned to learn Freddie Mercury once took Princess Diana out for a drink, disguised as a man.

The actor, who has won acclaim for his portrayal of the flamboyant rock star in Queen biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody", picked up a lot of stories and anecdotes about Freddie from the late singer's family members, friends and bandmates while he was researching and playing the star, and he admits some of the tales he was told seemed a little tall.

"There was one moment that I hear he (Mercury) took Princess Diana and disguised her as a man and took her into a bar, just so they could have their own fun moment without anybody else being aware," Rami told People on the red carpet ahead of the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night, January 27.

"Now, I don't know if that's true, this might be an urban legend."

But Freddie's pal Cleo Rocos insists the story is most definitely true, telling PopSugar, "They were sipping Champagne and watching reruns of Golden Girls, creating their own subplots for the sitcom, albeit with a much a naughtier story line" when the singer suggested they join his friends at a rough gay bar, and dressed her in "an army jacket, Aviator sunglasses, and a leather cap."

According to Cleo the ruse worked - Mercury was left alone and everyone else in the bar had no idea he was drinking with the beloved royal.

Rami continued his winning streak as Freddie at the SAG Awards, picking up an Outstanding Actor honour.
