Though so, the 'Ocean's 8' actress reveals the fun side of her hair transformation got switched off once she slipped into her role as Matthew McConaughey's wife in the dark thriller.

AceShowbiz - Anne Hathaway has admitted she "felt funnier" with her hair dyed blonde for her new movie.

The Oscar-winning actress, 36, transformed her brunette locks to play Karen, the ex-wife of Matthew McConaughey's fisherman character Baker, in the dark thriller "Serenity (2019)".

And Anne has no regrets about the dye job.

"I felt funnier!" she told W magazine. "I don't know why, but I just felt that I could be funnier while saying less. I know that doesn't make any sense, but it was just – it's nice."

The mother-of-one said it's given her a new perspective on having her hair changed for a movie role, and in real-life.

"And it also made me want to do it more in life, like, just mess around with (my hair) and not get too fixed on anything," she explained.

While the blonde hair gave Anne more freedom to embrace her funny side, it was no fun at all to play Karen in "Serenity".

"The day before I arrived in Mauritius, it was a lot of fun," she said. "But then once I settled into my character – which is a woman whose entire identity is controlled by her abusive husband – the fun kinda stopped."

The thriller has been panned by critics, however Anne defended the film in a passionate post on Instagram.

"We keep it real around here: Some critics get 'Serenity' and, like me, find it interesting, moving, ambitious and different, and for some it just doesn't work. That's cool... not everyone has to like everything, and the critical response doesn't change my feelings about the movie," she wrote.

"I endorse the movie, many critics don't," Anne fired.
