Aside from teaming up with the South African filmmaker, the 'Ghost Rider' star will reunite with his 'Mandy' producers for this film adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's 1927 novella.

AceShowbiz - Nicolas Cage has signed on to star in the adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's 1927 novella "Color Out of Space".

The film will be directed by South African filmmaker Richard Stanley, his first feature in over 20 years, and principal photography will start next month (February 2019).

Joely Richardson, Tommy Chong, Elliot Knight, Julian Hilliard, and Q'Orianka Kilcher will also star alongside Cage in the film, about a family experiencing other worldly experiences after a meteorite crashes into the front yard of their New England farmhouse.

The project will reunite Cage with bosses at production company SpectreVision, following their work together on the thriller "Mandy".

"Lovecraft is the dark father of modern horror, and we have been searching for an adaptation that captures the true scope of his cosmic dread for years," a statement from producer Daniel Noah reads. "Richard Stanley - a wizard in his own right - will at long last bring Lovecraft's humbling power to the screen unfiltered."

Cage's new project comes a year after he opened up about wanting to step behind the camera to direct.

"In terms of producing and directing, yes, I'm getting back in production," he told The Blast in April (18). "My company, Saturn Films, is involved in all the movies I'm doing now. And directing is something I look forward to down the road because right now, I'm primarily a film performer and I'm gonna continue doing that for three or four more years and (then) I'd like to focus more on directing."

Cage is a busy guy at the moment - he currently has another seven films in development, including "Prisoners of the Ghostland", "The Croods 2", "A Score to Settle", and "Kill Chain".
